So far, I am loving this lock and handle situation. Just finished installing today, so only day one. Downloaded app to my and husbands phone. The only thing I don't have functioning properly is the fingerprint situation, which is the least of my needs. I love the keypad and the app and the exterior handle is beautiful.
We love it. It always works great
Whether you enter a code or fingerprint, it is quick to unlock!!
The first question you should always ask when picking out a digital lock - does it have a manual key as a backup entry method? Fortunately this one does, but I've seen many that don't.
If using the key, you slide open the fingerprint part.
Another thing to look for - is the key a standard key (meaning, you can have duplicates made) or is it some weirdo key. A lot of these import locks have weirdo keys that cannot be duplicated. I personally like to have keys on all my vehicle keyrings, but also one hidden in the yard. Fortunately this one does have a standard key. The downside to this is that if a thief knows where to look for the keyhole, they can use a standard bump key to gain entry.
And, something most people don't think about - the back side of this lock has a pretty big footprint, so it won't work with many smart doorknobs. I like to have smart locks on both the door knob and also the deadbolt.
I don't like how app-dependent it is. You can delete the app after you set everything up, but you must rely on the app to change settings, add users, etc.
I like the auto lock feature. It's customizable, so you can have it lock up to a minute after you close the door. One thing to be aware of - if you have an older door, or if your deadbolt doesn't line up exactly, then this feature may malfunction. So make sure it works before you rely on it - once I came home to discover the door was unlocked the whole time.
I do like that the fingerprint scanner looks a bit like a camera. It may act as a deterrent. But also I've seen people try to talk into it lol.
This fingerprint scanner is very accurate - I tried all my fingers, and even had family try, and it would only open for my right thumb (which is what I set it up to do). I've tested over a dozen different brands, and they're getting better over time. Just a couple years ago, these fingerprint scanners were so inaccurate they would unlock for just about anyone.
I'm not crazy about the batteries. It takes 4x AA batteries (not included). Most of these style locks require AA batteries, so that's not a huge complaint. In my experience they last about a year if you use name brand batteries.
One thing that it's missing - and perhaps my favorite feature in digital locks - are RFID cards (like hotel key cards). Lots of locks offer this, and the key card is so easy to keep in your purse, wallet, or even outside (like in a mail box). Thieves would never find it unless they knew it was there, and they probably wouldn't even know to look for one. There are many brands of locks that have the RFID that are even less expensive than this one. My favorite locks have 4 methods of entry - keypad, fingerprint, RFID, and manual key (and sometimes app, which I personally never use).
Final note - the pictures show this by itself, with no door knob, which is weird. To be clear, this is a deadbolt only. They do offer a package deal where you get the deadbolt plus a handle. Or you can pair it with any black handle.
